Every program we put in place, every decision we make goes back to one main principle: building a foundation for student success. 

Our Mission 

The Office of Undergraduate Affairs is committed to ensuring that our undergraduate students have an exceptional college experience.

Our goal is to advance undergraduate learning and career goals through outstanding academic advising, assessment of student learning, student success opportunities, and through careful attention to academic policies and procedures at WVU.

Advising Goals 

  • Provide individualized academic planning to transition students into a degree program.
  • Refer students to appropriate campus resources.
  • Build and cultivate partnerships with colleges and schools.
  • Teach students to access and interpret academic information.
  • Expand access to post-secondary education.
  • Engage students in personal growth and development through the institutional community.

Assessment Goals

  • Encourage a culture of assessment by collaborating with stakeholders and providing resources.
  • Promote an evidence-based approach to instruction and the development of effective instructional policies and practices.
  • Develop user-friendly systems for the access and use of information and data, completion of processes, and enabling of meta-analysis.

Student Success Goals
  • Students will make a successful transition to the WVU environment, will persist through their first year, and will return for their second year at WVU.
  • Students will actively engage in career planning and will select an academic major by the end of their freshman year.
  • Students will complete their degree of choice in a timely manner.
  • Students will acquire and employ academic and critical thinking skills, and will become more independent, self-confident, and efficient learners through the development of improved self-management skills.
  • Students will develop a global perspective through positive experiences of diversity and inclusion.

Undergraduate Policies and Procedures Goals
  • Streamline and clarify our policies and procedures affecting undergraduate education.
  • Provide accurate documentation to governing bodies, the State and other constituencies.
  • Identify and implement best practices to advance academic initiatives and student success.
  • Promote assessment of student learning, student success, retention, and graduation across One WVU (from programs to schools to colleges on up).
