Every program we put in place, every decision we make goes back to one main principle: building a foundation for student success.

Undergraduate Education is committed to ensuring that our undergraduate students have an exceptional college experience.

Our goal is to advance undergraduate learning and career goals through outstanding teaching, academic advising and student success opportunities at WVU

Advising Goals 

  • Provide individualized academic planning to transition students into a degree program.
  • Refer students to appropriate campus resources.
  • Build and cultivate partnerships with colleges and schools.
  • Teach students to access and interpret academic information.
  • Expand access to post-secondary education.
  • Engage students in personal growth and development through the University Community. 

Student Success Goals
  • Students will make a successful transition to the WVU environment, will persist through their first year and will return for their second year at WVU. 
  • Students will actively engage in career planning and will select an academic major by the end of their freshman year.
  • Students will acquire and employ academic and critical thinking skills, and will become more independent, self-confident, and efficient learners through the development of improved self-management skills.
  • Students will develop a global perspective through positive experiences of diversity and inclusion.
Teaching and Learning Common Goals
  • Encourage a culture of assessment by collaborating with stakeholders and providing resources.
  • Create innovative, creative and interactive media to enhance the effectiveness of instructional design, improve, enhance and support technology that is commensurate with the needs of our classroom/learning space users. 
  • Promote an evidence-based scholarly teaching approach that incorporates research, assessment tech. int. and effective instructional practices.
Undergraduate Policies and Procedures Goals
  • Streamline and clarify our policies and procedures affecting undergraduate education.
  • Provide accurate documentation to governing bodies, the State and other constituencies.
  • Identify and implement best practices to advance academic initiatives and student success.
  • Promote assessment of student success, retention and graduation across One WVU (from programs to schools to colleges on up).
