First-Year Seminar

All WVU students must take and pass First-Year Seminar in order to graduate.

If you're a first-time freshman, you'll register for a First-Year Seminar course during New Student Orientation. The course will help your transition from high school to college life.

First-Year Seminar

One of the cornerstones of your academic experience at WVU is the First Year Seminar (FYS). Within your FYS course you will:
  • Connect with WVU’s diverse and global community.
  • Engage with different viewpoints that challenge your ideas.
  • Learn about the resources WVU has to offer for your academic success.
  • Explore all of the academic opportunities available (i.e., undergraduate student research, study abroad).
  • Improve your critical thinking.

This will all be accomplished by interacting with administrators, faculty and staff who will assist you in your journey to graduation here at WVU.

More details about FYS 2016-2017 are coming soon. Stay tuned!
